ONLINE TRAINING

Training online is very effective as we use GoToMeeting combined with Telephone or Skype. You'll still receive all the same training manuals and the same instruction you would have in person. And, of course, the training is done One-on-One... just you and your Instructor.

In order to determine if your Internet connection is adequate for online training, please go to www.speedtest.net and run the test using the closest city (usually the recommended city). Then email us the down speed, the up speed and the ping time (latency). We'll need those three numbers before we can agree to online training.

www.GoToMeeting.com allows your Instructor to view your computer screen, and you will take turns using the mouse and keyboard, all of which is visible to both you and your Instructor. We'll use this to set up your computer and to teach you. This is how you'll watch the markets together and mark up charts. Prior to your training date, we'll email you instructions, which is a simple download and login on your end. And, there's no cost to you.

If you are in the United States and have a landline phone, your Instructor will call you during your training sessions. We recommend using a two ear telephone headset as holding the handset gets tiresome and speakerphones can be difficult to hear each other, especially if there is background noise. There's no additional cost for us to call you.

If you are outside the United States, or don't have a landline phone, we'll use Skype. www.Skype.com basically uses your computer to make a phone call, without the use of a phone. You'll need a microphone to speak, and headphones to listen. If you don't already have a Skype name, go ahead and get one now to get familiar with it. We'll also send you your Instructor's Skype name prior to your training date. Skype is free.

With Skype, a high quality desktop USB microphone with separate headphones is what we've found works best. So, you will use two pieces: an external USB microphone, which you will use to talk to your Instructor; and a pair of lightweight foam-padded headphones or ear buds for listening to your Instructor (see fig 1. below). Although some people prefer a USB headset made for the computer with a boom microphone on it (see fig 2. below), we've found that even the best of them become very uncomfortable after an hour or so. Both of these setups will provide the best quality connection. Please note that analog microphones, external speakers, laptop built-in microphones and speakers, and webcam microphones usually are not effective and give poor quality connections. To find the recommended microphone, go to www.google.com and search on "Logitech USB Desktop Microphone" with the quotation marks. This recommended microphone has a list price of US$29.95 and is always sold for less. This is what it looks like:
